Executive Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs, American Trucking Associations

Sue Hensley is the Executive Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs for the American Trucking Associations, the nation’s leading organization representing the interests of the trucking industry. In addition to overseeing ATA’s communications strategy and public affairs team, Hensley also serves as Publisher of the award winning publication, Transport Topics.

Prior to joining ATA, Hensley served as Senior Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications with the National Restaurant Association for more than a decade.

Previously, Hensley was the Associate Administrator and chief spokesperson for the U.S. Small Business Administration, and served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at the U.S. Department of Labor. She spent several years on Capitol Hill as a communications director in the Senate and as a press secretary in the House of Representatives.

Her journalism and communications background began as a news producer for WCIA-TV in Champaign, Ill.; news director at WPGU-Radio in Champaign; and news anchor at WRMN/WJKL-Radio in Elgin, Ill.

A native of Palatine, Ill., Hensley is a graduate of the broadcast journalism program at the University of Illinois and is a Certified Association Executive. She was recognized in 2012 as one of the nation’s top PR professionals, receiving PR Week’s “40 under 40” award.
